I only caught the end of it but I could have sworn they said that on ESPN. Anyone else hear the whole story? And if so how is having a corked bat a racial thing?

Mr. Steroids Jose Canseco went on this big long speech on how this was racial and if McGuire was caught corking that very little would be made of it. More and more seem to be jumping in on this also saying that the only reason it's such a big deal is because of Sosa's race.
Always reach for that race card when all else fails.

I`m sure there is a double standard and preferential treatment to some degree towards the foreign ballplayers...They`re not as marketable as a Ripken or McGwirein this country. But to bring out the race card for a guy`s shattered cork flying all over Wrigley field how does that turn into a racial issue? I guess if Big Mac had it happen the umps would have turned the other cheek

I didn't hear the whole story so I don't even know how they made the stretch that this could have been racial in any manner. Were they saying the punishment was worse because it was Sammy? I will have to find the story and read it myself....

Well If it was RIPKEN I think it would even been bigger news actually. I lived in the area and never got the popularity of Ripken, a good player , a very good player but overrated.
